Child Welfare and Attendance Counselors are professionals who provide their expertise and leadership in promoting student attendance.

Program Schedule

Student must have a master's degree and Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPS) in order to apply.  The CWA program is nine (9) units over one (1) semester.  

Program Schedule
  • CWA 547 meets one evening a week from 6 pm to 10 pm.
  • CWA 548 meets every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.

The CWA Professional

• Views student attendance issues as the symptom of something else • Provides case management services
• Understands that attendance is a behavior • Applies the Response to Intervention (RTI) and other evidence-based models when working with students
• Provides individual, family and group counseling • Utilizes a systems theory approach to working with students and families
• Conducts home visits
